A Backwards Belladone

Sorry to be a big copycat Rachael, but I'm going to have to post a Belladone today too.

This frock has been finished and worn several times now despite some pattern reading "issues"(I made a boo boo).
It is so super comfy and practical that I think there needs to be several more Belladone's in the wardrobe.

I've already confessed my sweet sweet love for Deer & Doe...sigh...
Their patterns really are nice. I've tried 3 patterns and loved them all.
This is another straight out of the envelope with no alterations. Woo hoo!

I cut it out at night and sewed her up the following afternoon. It all came together very quickly.
I didn't bind the back openings as the fabric has quite a lotta body. I just folded and stitched.
The neck and armholes are bound with white bias that I made at the last minute. No white bias in the stash! disgraceful...

And the fabric? This is a stretch cotton... quite heavy... that I purchased on Ebay from a destasher.
It has a nice amount of stretch and pressed really nicely. Mmmm cotton.
And it reminds me of old wallpaper which is a plus.

Has anybody noticed my boo boo yet?

Yeah, there it is! On the left.
Those blasted back pieces were sewn and finished and when I tried the dress on I realised it was all backwards. Those two top pieces should be on the outside! feck.
oh well. I try not to go near the dreaded seam ripper of death for obvious reasons so this is just going to stay how it is.... I'll try and remember for the next version. Durrr.

Not sure whats going on with those back wrinkles.
They only appear in front of the camera...as soon as my back is turned, I shake my fist at you back wrinkles!
Other notes: Love the hem facing, probs could move that bust dart down a notch and this is probably my best ever invisible zip. Sometimes you just win.

Fabric: Stretch cotton scored from Ebay
Time: Approx 5 Hrs including cutting time

So what does everyone think of Deer & Doe patterns?

Well well, that is all for today. I have cake to go and eat.

PS. I have a couple of metres of this fabric left to do something with.
Anybody have any ideas?

PPS. Stay tuned for the 100 post follower giveaway mega happy fun time.

  3. I've been on the fence with the Deer & Doe patterns, always trying to find a pattern company that makes for my shape. Is it D&D? Not sure. But yours is sooooo lovely I think I'd chance it anyway. Gorgeous

  5. I'm loving Deer and Doe too! I've only made their Chardon skirt thus far but I loved it. I've got this pattern too but I'm waiting for the right fabric for it.

I was staring at the image of the upper back thinking 'something's not right' but I couldn't put my finger on it. Oh well, still looks really good.

  6. Gotta love a pattern that doesn't need alterations. I've been lusting over the Deer & Doe patterns for sure. I love the cut out in the back of this one. :)

Glad your boo boo worked out regardless. It's always great to have a wearable piece even if it's not exactly right! ;)
