The Lemonade Dress

Presenting...
The Lemonade dress

I made this dress a couple of months ago using a lemony print seersucker purchased from Ebay.
It was actually a tablecloth, so it took a lot of unpicking of the edges before i could actually start sewing the darn thing!

I just realized how strange my legs look in this shot. It looks like they are back to front... they are crossed but hmm
It was made using the same self drafted pattern as the black & white gingham dress and is lined in a yellowy mustardy coloured cotton voile. Its perfect and swishy for a lovely summers day... even though summer is over...

Crinkly Seersucker!
It was a breeze to sew, the only thing I changed was to bring the neckline up a bit....
No peek-a-boo bra this time!
I'm thinking of letting the hem down a bit, the length doesn't look quite right... what do you guys think??
It matches the yellow petticoat too :-)

check out the 5 inche hem with pretty yellow ribbon :-)
I did also try a new method...
The hand picked zipper that I have been wanting to try for SO long.
It is surprisingly easy (And I hate hand sewing (Well no I don't hate it, just havn't practiced enough)).
I used a vintage yellow zipper that I got in a bulk lot from Etsy.
Its so sturdy!

SO not close enough to see the hard work on the hand picked zip! Dang!
Anywho... I have lots of fabric piling up so I better get back to the trusty machine.

Sneak peek...

Thats all for now folks!

  1. Absolutely Lovely!! That dress is a Charm and the print is great. I vote for knocking down the hem an inch or so, but really, it looks wonderful as is.

  4. That is one stunning dress!! I vote for leaving the hem as is - it shows off your pins perfectly, and seems to hit your knee in the right spot.

  5. It's fantastic and you look wonderful in it, don't change a thing! You've made me want to try the hand picked zip too - I'm lazy so anything described as easy gets my vote. LOVE that cactus fabric on the line, can't wait to see what you make with it. x

  6. its adorable and you can really pull off yellow. i cant do yellow because with my red hair i look like ronald macdonald. i would bring the hem down a bit because it looks like when you sit that hem will expose your bum to cold seats!

  7. This is a beautiful dress and absolutely perfect - I love the length too! Zips are not my friends, so perhaps I may have more luck with the hand-picked variety...I will certainly give it a go!

  19. LOVE! The hem length looks pretty perfect to me. I wouldn't touch it. I almost always put zippers in by hand. So much easier to control that way!

  21. That is adorable, and it really suits your coloring. I love how the length of the skirt works for you, it hits your legs in just the right spot, which can be tricky w/ full skirts. Nice nude pumps too!
Clearly tablecloth sewing is where it's at. I just made one too:

  27. Great combo & styling!

I love that you've drafted your own patterns, I really should get into that, as I spend most of my time resizing my vintage ones. Hmmmmmm, thanks for the inspiration!

I love tablecloths for a fresher looking pattern, always makes things unique!
