Black & White #1

Current Obsession - Black & White frocks.

I have been eyeing off some lovely black and white frocks lately over at Modcloth and other such pretty sites and decided I need one... In gingham.

Twas just my luck when I happened to stumble upon some perfect black and white shiny gingham taffeta on ebay & won it for a steal! I had to start stitching as soon as it arrived.

Full Frontal

This is the first complete dress that I have drafted myself and it turned out pretty good I think...
The only thing is that the neckline is about an inch too low, oops. I will have to be careful when & where I wear this number.

Back Shot
The fabric was a bit of a pain to sew with... so shiny and creasy....bleh!
But we got there in the end... after two zippers and some loss of hair...
Its completely lined in some light white cotton but I didn't get a picture. Silly me.

I plan to make this again in a gorgeous lemon print seersucker (Yes another ebay score, don't judge me!)
Think I'll raise the neckline this time so its good to wear out of the house... Tee hee

Lemony Awesomness and Mystery Fabric
Hope everyone is going well in sewing land.
What is everybody sewing???

Stay Tuned for Black & White #2 & #3
Black and white fever!

  2. Ooo- you drafted it yourself? That´s a awesome. Drafting is my number one skill to learn better this year. The endless possibilities that comes with that!

Love the black&white, I just scored some ditto houndstooth in a thrift shop the other day, and have been pondering what to do with it....Hm... :-)

Looking forward to the the lemony number as well!

  3. I die. That is SO cute!
I'm in sewing room transit right now - moving from the dining room table to an actual room (er, half of the laundry room, but a ROOM nonetheless:). Once I'm in there, a Pendrell blouse is on the top of the to-do list!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. Gorgeous dress! I love a bit of black and white checks too. The lemon fabric is gorgeous too. I have never bought fabric off ebay. I must check it out. I sewed a work dress the other day but haven't taken photos yet. Funny thing is I cut it out when I was working then I quit my job so now I have no where to wear it. Oh and I keep forgetting to let you know I posted your giveaway prize last Friday so hopefully you get it this week.

  12. Love this frock so much! I made myself an apple green and white dropwaist one last summer (http://arsgratiaartis-shalyn.blogspot.com/2010/08/hairspray-dress.html), but I think one more like yours is now added to my 'to make' list as well.
